AM LAB — Laboratory Information System

A production-oriented, security-focused laboratory information system for a diagnostics clinic: patient registration, test ordering with a dynamic discount engine, result management with abnormal-value flagging, medical-device integration, PDF/QR reporting, and an analytics dashboard. Independently designed and built as a final-year capstone.

PHP 8 · OOP MySQL · PDO Bootstrap 5 Healthcare Security-first
AM LAB analytics dashboard showing daily revenue, monthly revenue, tests and patients today, a 7-day revenue chart, order status ring, and tests-by-category donut chart
Analytics dashboard — revenue, order status & category breakdown
AM LAB register and new order screen: patient information form beside a searchable, category-filtered test catalog with prices
Register a patient & build a multi-test order
AM LAB discount rules admin: form to add a discount tier beside a table of active tiers from 10% to 50% based on test count
Tiered discount-rule engine (10%–50% by test count)

Core capabilities

  • Staff authentication with role-based access (Secretary / Lab / Admin)
  • Test catalog CRUD with a tiered dynamic discount engine
  • Patient registration, search & unique IDs (LAB-YYYY-XXXX)
  • Multi-test orders with automatic pricing
  • Token & QR-based public patient portal (30-day expiry)
  • Sample tracking with auto-generated barcodes

Security model

  • bcrypt password hashing (cost 12)
  • CSRF tokens on state-changing requests
  • Output escaping to prevent XSS
  • Session regeneration on login
  • 128-char crypto-random portal tokens
  • Full audit log with IP + JSON diff

Integration & reporting

  • Medical-device intake via ASTM E1381 & HL7 v2.x
  • Abnormal / critical result flagging with auto-alerts
  • Versioned result history (who changed what, when)
  • PDF report generation (DomPDF) + QR codes
  • Email delivery over Gmail SMTP (PHPMailer)
  • Analytics: revenue, top tests, turnaround time

About me

Production-minded from day one

I'm Aln Hakeem Husein, a software developer and final-year Computer Science student at the University of Duhok. I build practical, secure software for real-world workflows.

For my final-year capstone I designed and built AM LAB, a laboratory information system handling patient registration, test ordering, result management, medical-device integration, and reporting — with a security-first approach throughout.

I care about software that holds up in production, not just in a demo: role separation, audit trails, prepared statements, and abnormal-result safeguards are the details I sweat.

"I'd rather prove capability by building one serious thing well than list a dozen tutorials."

How I work

  • Ship iteratively — AM LAB evolved from v2.0 to v2.5 with versioned migrations
  • Treat security as a feature, not an afterthought
  • Model real domains carefully (healthcare workflows, regulatory-flavored concerns)
  • Integrate standards & third-party systems rather than reinventing them

Beyond the code

  • Multilingual — Kurdish, Arabic & English
  • International collaboration: IREX Global Solutions Challenge with US teammates
  • A graphic-design background that sharpens my front-end eye
  • Based in Duhok, Kurdistan Region, Iraq
